On Friday, the 10th of July, 2026 the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) visited the UBEC Model Smart School, Kakum Obudu, for a post-evaluation exercise and monitoring.

The purpose of their visit was to understudy all Korean projects and identify any lapses where they can assist in their second-phase project.

The Senior Deputy Country Director, Mr. Baik KI-KYAUN, expressed excitement and promised that the second phase has almost begun. They are currently accepting proposals from consultant companies, and after this is done, the $10 million project will kick-start by November or December.

The team, alongside SUBEB, went around the entire school to evaluate the facilities. They inspected teaching and learning in the classrooms, the studio, the public address system, the clinic, the server room, the engine room, and many other areas.

The Principal expressed gratitude for their maximum support during the first-phase period.

The new SUBEB boss, Mrs. Fidelia Okpo Ene, also thanked the Koreans for what they have done and stated that, although she is new to the board, she is ready to cooperate.

Meanwhile, the SUBEB Secretary outlined how the school started, growing from 130 learners to 463. He thanked KOICA for everything they have accomplished and expressed his wish that the collaboration will continue.
