Cross River SUBEB, UBEC, Organize 4-Day Training for Head Teachers on Effective School Management, Leadership and Quality Assurance
In any society or organization, for an employer to get the best from employees, the head of the organization must ensure that the manpower is continually trained.
On this note, the Cross River State Universal Basic Education Board [CR-SUBEB) in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission [UBEC] has concluded a 4-day capacity building training for head teachers on effective school management.
The training was aimed at improving the capacity of school leaders on quality assurance procedures for effective and efficient school administration. It was designed to strengthen the leadership, management, and supervisory skills of school administrators in order to improve the quality of basic education across the state.
Declaring the training open, the Executive Chairman of Cross River SUBEB, Mrs. Fidelia Okpo Ene, Esq., who was represented by Hon. Joseph Ogar, Board Member 1, expressed gratitude to His Excellency, Prince Bassey Edet Otu, the Governor of Cross River State, for giving basic education pride of place through the timely payment of counterpart funds, which made the training possible.
In her keynote address, she said:
“I consider it a great privilege to address this gathering of over 110 head teachers of our public primary schools who have been selected to widen and deepen their knowledge and skills in effective school management. I commend each of you for your commitment to educational excellence and your willingness to continuously learn and grow as leaders. The role of a head teacher extends far beyond administrative responsibilities. You are the chief, instructional leader, mentor, counselor, manager, and vision bearer of your learners. The quality of leadership you provide directly influences teacher performance, learner achievement, discipline, and the overall culture of learning.”
She also commended UBEC for its continued partnership and support in advancing basic education in the state.

Speaking, the UBEC Team Lead, Mrs. Sherifat Lawal, urged participants to take full advantage of the training. She stressed that effective school leadership is fundamental to improving discipline, instructional quality, and learning outcomes.
Also speaking, the Director, Monitoring and Evaluation, Mr. Archibong A. Okon, affirmed the Board’s commitment to continuous capacity building. He noted that it would improve service delivery, reinforce learner support systems, and advance the Cross River State Government’s vision of providing equitable and free quality basic education for every child.
The training was impactful and focused on strengthening the capacity of education stakeholders to deliver improved learning outcomes through modern, structured teaching approaches. It provided participants with practical strategies to enhance classroom effectiveness, promote learner engagement, and ensure consistency in instructional delivery across schools in Cross River State.
