CALABAR – The Department of Social Mobilization of the *Cross River State Universal Basic Education Board, CRSUBEB, in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC, Abuja, has commenced a statewide enrollment drive and community sensitization campaign across the 18 Local Government Areas of the state.
The exercise is aimed at returning out-of-school children to classrooms, boosting enrollment, and strengthening community participation in basic education delivery.
Speaking at the flag-off in Calabar, officials of the department said the joint campaign will involve town hall meetings, house-to-house advocacy, radio jingles, and engagement with traditional rulers, faith leaders, CDAs and parents.
“We are taking this message to every village and ward: Basic education is free, compulsory and a right of every child,” a CRSUBEB official stated. “No child should be left behind because of ignorance or lack of awareness.”
UBEC representatives Dr.Omuta OBANOVWE UBEC Coordinator present at the event reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to supporting CRSUBEB in achieving the goals of the UBE Act through funding, monitoring, and grassroots mobilization.
The campaign is expected to run across all 18 LGAs in the coming weeks, with special focus on rural and hard-to-reach communities.
The CRSUBEB Chairman Mrs Fedilia Okpo Ene Esq urged parents and guardians to take advantage of the intervention and enroll their children and wards in public primary and junior secondary schools across the state.
